Gas Saving Tips

We here at Bellwood Executive Transportation know all too well about the rise in fuel prices and the effect on the pocketbook. Here are a few tips you can use in order to maximize your fuel economy:

1. Don't bother with any of this nonsense and just hire a chauffeur.

2. One of the best ways to save gas is to simply SLOW DOWN. As speed increases, fuel mileage will decrease. You'll save fuel and your trip won't take that much longer.

3. Improperly inflated tires are one of the most common culprits of low fuel economy. Under-inflated tires mean you need to burn more gas to keep your car moving. Buy a good tire gage and CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE at least once a month. Use the inflation pressures shown in the owner's manual or on the driver's door jamb not the one on the side of the tire.

4. HANG UP AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD. Why are you putting the pedal to the metal when there is a red light 100 yards down the road or traffic up ahead? Ease up on hard acceleration in city driving or heavy congestion on the highway.

5. Thinking about getting one of those fuel saving devices you saw on a late night infomercial? Don't waste your money. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns you to be wary of any gas-saving claims for automotive devices or oil and gas additives. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/autos/aut10.shtm

6. COMBINE ERRANDS into one trip. It will save you time and money. Several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel. With a little planning, you can avoid retracing your route and reduce the distance you travel as well. You'll not only save fuel, but also reduce wear and tear on your car.

7. See #1 from above.
